SSP makes a variety of EMI shielding silicones. On our website, you’ll find them under the Products menu and the EMI/RFI Shielding Elastomers category. Then, look for these subcategories.

  • MIL-DTL-83528 QPL Certified
  • Corrosion Resistant
  • Low Shore A/Soft
  • Fuel and Solvent Resistant
  • Low Outgassing
  • Most Conductive
  • Flame Retardant
  • Reinforced
  • Most-Cost Effective
  • Non-Silicone Based

SSP’s EMI shielding silicones come ready-to-fabricate and are available as sheets, rolls, moldable compounds, extrusions, EMI O-rings, and EMI gaskets. So, which ones do you need? Let’s take a closer look at what’s available.

MIL-DTL-83528 QPL Certified

SSP’s MIL-DTL-83528 QPL certified EMI shielding silicones meet the requirements of MIL-DTL-83528, a U.S. military specification for electrically conductive elastomeric shielding gaskets. They’re also part of the M83528 Qualified Product List (QPL) from the Defense Logistic Agency (DLA). Our MIL-DTL-83528 Type A, B, C, D, and K elastomers provide offsets to Parker Chomerics CHO-SEAL® materials.

Corrosion Resistant

SSP’s corrosion resistant EMI shielding silicones combine electrical conductivity and EMI shielding with resistance to galvanic corrosion, a problem in marine environments. Our nickel-aluminum-filled elastomers are a cost-effective alternative to silver-filled products and include offset to CHO-SEAL 6502 and CHO-SEAL 6503.

Low Shore A/Soft

SSP’s low shore A/soft EMI silicones provide reliable sealing under low closure force and are available in a durometers down to 30 Shore A. Choose nickel-graphite-filled silicones (including a flame-retardant offset to GORE GS2100) or a 45-durometer silver-aluminum fluorosilicone that offers a softer version of CHO-SEAL 1287 and 1298. This soft EMI fluorosilicone is also tested to ASTM E595 and is fuel and solvent resistant.

Fuel and Solvent Resistant

SSP’s fuel and solvent resistant EMI fluorosilicones include a QPL certified MIL-DTL-83528, Type D elastomer and nickel-graphite materials in 50, 60, and 80 durometer (Shore A). There are also two silver-aluminum fluorosilicones, including a passivated product. Passivation increases the corrosion resistance of the electrically conductive metal particles.

Low Outgassing

SSP’s low outgassing EMI silicones meet ASTM E595 requirements. They include a QPL certified MIL-DTL-83528, Type B offset to CHO-SEAL 1285 and an offset to CHO-SEAL 6502. Low-outgassing flame retardant offsets to GORE GS2100 and GORE GS5200 are available. In addition, there’s a nickel-graphite EMI silicone for extreme low temperature environments and a silver-aluminum fluorosilicone.

Most Conductive

SSP’s most conductive EMI shielding silicones have silver-coated particles and the highest level of electrical conductivity. They include QPL certified MIL-DTL-83528 Type A and Type K. There’s also a silver-aluminum silicone with optimum surface conductivity and a silver-nickel fluorosilicone for harsh environments.

Flame Retardant

SSP’s flame retardant EMI shielding silicones are filled with nickel-graphite particles. They have UL 94 V0 flame ratings and have been independently tested for ASTM E595 low outgassing. There are two products. The first is a 40-durometer EMI silicone that’s an offset to GORE GS2100. The second is a 60-durometer EMI silicone that’s an offset to GORE GS5200. Both GORE materials are discontinued.

Reinforced

SSP’s reinforced EMI shielding silicones contain nickel-graphite particles and are reinforced with an inner layer of conductive fabric. They come in four different inch-based thicknesses: .020, .024, .032, .040, and .062. SSP offers two composite materials, both of which have physical properties that are superior to non-reinforced elastomers.

Most-Cost Effective

SSP’s most-cost effective EMI shielding silicone supports thinner, smaller, and lighter weight designs. It’s also an offset to CHO-SEAL 6305.  This 65-durometer nickel-graphite EMI elastomer offers performance levels that are comparable to shielding silicones with silver-coated particles. Independent test results for salt spray according to ASTM B117 are also available.

Non-Silicone Based

Finally, SSP offers a 75-durometer nickel-coated EPDM shielding elastomer. This non-silicone gasket material provides excellent ozone and UV resistance along with good compression set and solvent resistance. As with all SSP’s EMI shielding elastomers, customized versions are available in different durometers.
