SSP502-60-V0 is a 60-durometer (Shore A), flame-retardant, electrically conductive, silicone compound that is filled with nickel-coated graphite particles for EMI RFI shielding. This EMI silicone conforms to UL-94 V0 for flame resistance and has been tested to ASTM595 outgassing parameters both with and without conductive PSA applied.
Use SSP502-60-V0 instead of GS5200, a discontinued GORE® EMI Material. Applications include EMI gaskets for military and defense, aerospace, spaceflight, telecommunications, wireless infrastructure, automotive, mobile phones, GPS, portable computers, and handheld field testing equipment.
UL 94 compounds can help address concerns about the spread of fire from electrical overloads, component failure, insulation breakdowns, and loose connections. This UL standard defines a method for rating the ignition characteristics for polymeric parts used in electronic devices and equipment.
UL 94 is a single standard, but contains different flame ratings for different types of materials, such as solid rubber. There are also different flame ratings depending on the burn specimen’s orientation. For example, UL 94 V-0 applies to specimens that are positioned vertically during testing.
By filling a silicone elastomer with metal or metal-coated particles, a compound can combine enviromental sealing with electrical conductivity and EMI shielding. Nickel-coated graphite particles are a good choice because they balance cost with performance.
For SSP502-60-V0, shielding effectiveness in the 20 MHz to 10 GHz range (E-field) may vary by form factor. Compression-molded sheets and ready-to-mold compounds have a typical shielding effectiveness of > 113 dB. Continuous rolls have a typical shielding effectiveness of > 100 dB.
SSP502-60-V0 is supplied as sheet stock and continuous roll stock with or without conductive pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA). SSP502-60-V0 has been tested to ASTM595 outgassing parameters both with and without conductive PSA applied. For more information, see the Outgassing Report.
