SSP makes EMI products from the shielding silicones and fluorosilicones we make. Find EMI O-rings and die cut, flash cut, and molded EMI gaskets. Made in USA.
EMI shielding products are fabricated from electrically conductive silicones and fluorosilicones that protect electronics and electrical equipment against electromagnetic interference (EMI). The base elastomer seals out the environment and is filled with metal, bimetallic, or metal-coated particles that provide electrical conductivity and EMI shielding.
Four Types of EMI Products
Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) makes EMI silicones and fluorosilicones at our ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturing facility, tests these materials at our in-house laboratory, and then fabricates these elastomers into four main types of EMI shielding products.
- EMI O-Rings
- Die cut EMI gaskets
- Flash cut EMI gaskets
- Molded EMI gaskets
SSP also has its own toolroom where we make molds, dies, jigs, and fixtures. Many of the EMI elastomers that we fabricate have been independently tested and are MIL-DTL-83528 QPL certified. If you need EMI gaskets in slash sizes, we’re ready to provide you with MIL-DTL-83528 part numbers made from our EMI solid cords, hollow tubes, hollow and solid Ds, and solid rectangles. Custom EMI shielding is also available.
EMI O-Rings
EMI O-rings are donut-shaped gaskets with applications in electric vehicles, robotic arms, medical infusion pumps for IVs, 5G telecommunications, and aerospace electronics. This type of EMI shielding fits a groove and is crushed into place during installation. SSP can mold EMI O-rings as single pieces or bond them into cut lengths of extrusions. Either way, our in-house toolroom supports quick and quality-driven production.
Die Cut EMI Gaskets
Die cut EMI gaskets are cut into specific shapes from sheets or rolls of EMI silicones and fluorosilicones. SSP makes its own dies in-house and fabricates die cut EMI gaskets with a high degree of uniformity, even across higher volumes. Precise dimensions, parts nesting, and punched holes with specific radii are readily achievable. SSP can also apply conductive pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) tapes for peel-and-stick parts.
Flash Cut EMI Gaskets
Flash cut EMI gaskets use CNC equipment to cut EMI elastomers into specific shapes without custom tooling. Flash cutting is ideal for rapid prototyping and short runs, and this gasket fabrication method produces extremely smooth edges with minimal loss of material. This digital manufacturing process works from your CAD file and supports flash cut EMI gaskets with a conductive PSA.
Molded EMI Gaskets
Molded EMI gaskets are produced using compression molding, a process that places a preformed rubber material into the cavity of a heated mold. SSP makes its own molds in-house and produces compression-molded EMI gaskets using the same materials that we supply as sheets, rolls, and extrusions. For picture-frame style gaskets, molding can increase material yields and reduce material waste.
Choose EMI Products from SSP
You might think of SSP as a materials manufacturer with a network of distributors, but we hope you realize that we can supply you with EMI shielding products that arrive ready to install and meet tough challenges.
