SSP2551 is a 72-durometer, nickel-aluminum fluorosilicone that’s been tested to MIL-DTL-83528. This EMI elastomer performs to 40 GHz and can be used for military electronics due to MIL-DTL-461F requirements, specifically Section 5.18 RE103, radiated emissions, antenna spurious and harmonic outputs (10 kHz to 40 GHz).
SSP2551 also provides galvanic corrosion resistance and is ideal for marine environments such as the decks of aircraft carriers, where flange gaskets are subjected to salt spray, jet fuel, de-icing fluids, exhaust fumes, and electromagnetic interference (EMI). Because it is a fluorosilicone, SSP2551 resists fuels and solvents.
SSP2551 is filled with nickel-coated aluminum particles that provide effective EMI shielding and electrical conductivity. Compared to other EMI elastomers, nickel-aluminum products deliver the highest shielding effectiveness after long-term age testing. These particle-filled elastomers also have low transfer impedance. They resist fuels and solvents because fluorosilicone is the base material.
SSP2551 was tested according to MIL-DTL-83528 shielding effectiveness, a U.S. military specification for electrically-conductive elastomeric shielding gaskets. This EMI fluorosilicone has a shielding effectiveness of 112 dB at 20 MHz to 10 GHz. Volume resistivity, a measure of an insulating material’s resistance to leakage current through its body, was tested according to ASTM D991 and measured 0.03 ohm / cm.
Samples of SSP2551 were submitted to an independent laboratory for Outgas Testing in accordance with ASTM E595. These samples include batches of material with and without pressure-sensitive adhesive. All samples met ASTM E595 outgas requirements.
Compression deflection is a measurement of the force required to compress a material to a set amount. Testing for this SSP material was performed according to ASTM D75 Method A. Download the Compression Deflection Data for a chart with compressive stress [psi] vs. deflection [%].
SSP2551 can be used instead of CHO-SEAL 6503. CHO-SEAL® is a registered trademark of Parker Chomerics. SSP also makes other CHOSEAL offsets.
SSP2551 is dark gray in color and has thermal stability range of -60° C to 220° C. This EMI elastomer is supplied as fully-cured, conductive sheet stock; continuous extrusion profiles; and ready-to-mold compounds. Two shielding reports, an outgassing report, compression deflection data, and a technical data sheet are available.
