SSP’s MIL-DTL-83528 Type K EMI fluorosilicone has been added to QPL 83528. This EMI gasket material provides proven levels of EMI shielding and fuel and solvent resistance.

Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) is announcing that SSP-2571-85, an 85-durometer shielding silicone filled with silver-copper particles, has been added to the Defense Logistic Agency’s (DLA) Qualified Product List (QPL) for MIL-DTL-83528, Type K. This electrically-conductive silicone provides proven shielding against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and has also been independently tested for shielding effectiveness by DLS Electronics Systems, which also tested SSP-2571-85 for electromagnetic pulse (EMP) survivability.

MIL-DTL-83528 Type K QPL-83528 EMI Gaskets

In a letter dated August 31, 2021, the DLA informed Specialty Silicone Products that SSP-2571-85 passed qualification testing and has been added to QPL-83528 for specific drawings and material types. DLA, the combat logistics support agency for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) maintains a qualifying list of manufacturer part numbers (PNs) that meet the requirements of the lettered sections of MIL-DTL-83528, a specification for electrically conductive gasketing materials that provide EMI shielding.

Within MIL-DTL-83528, Type K covers high-durometer silver-plated, copper-filled silicones that are capable of 110 dB of plane wave shielding effectiveness at 10 GHz and that have a continuous temperature range of -45°C to +125°C. According to this U.S. military specification, shielding effectiveness is defined as the ability of an EMI gasket material to electrically bond a test cover panel to an enclosure flange such that the radiated radio frequency (RF) is attenuated by the factors specified in the standard. SSP’s Notification of Qualification from the DLA is VQH-21-036470.

Data Sheet and Third-Party Test Results Available

SSP-2571-85 has a typical shielding effectiveness of greater than 140 dB at 20 MHz to 10 GHz (E-Field). Its volume resistivity, a measure of an insulating material’s resistance to leakage current through its body, has a typical value of 0.0006 ohm-cm. For these and other product specifications, including material properties such as tensile strength, download SSP’s technical data sheet (TDS). Specialty Silicone Products has also made DLS Electronic Systems’ Shielding Effectiveness & EMP Survivability Test Report available. Both the TDS and third-party test results are available in PDF format for on-line viewing and printing.

How to Order SSP’s MIL-DTL-83528 Type K Silicone

SSP-2571-85 is supplied as fully-cured conductive sheet stock, ready-to-mold compounds, and continuous extrusion profiles (E257185). This conductive silicone elastomer is tan and color and Made in the USA at SSP’s Ballston Spa, New York manufacturing facility.
