Manufacturing Expansion Planned at SSP

Specialty Silicone Products (SSP), a fast-growing manufacturer of silicone products and materials, is planning to expand the size of its manufacturing facility by 50%. The proposed 25,000 sq. ft. addition to the company’s Ballston Spa, New York (USA) headquarters would be the silicone manufacturer’s second major expansion in five years and comes at a time when engineering and procurement departments are seeking solutions to a worldwide shortage of silicone rubber.

Today, SSP operates a 54,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in upstate New York. As reported in the Albany Business Review, SSP spent $4.2 million on a 2014 expansion that added 18,750 sq. ft. and positioned the  company to make resealable silicone parts for the biomedical, life sciences, and pharmaceutical industries. SSP continues to experience tremendous growth as demand rises for its EMI/RFI shielding elastomers, military and aerospace silicones, and other specialized silicones.

SSP’s expansion plans complement recent investments in a new mixing mill, extruding machine, precision measurement equipment, injection molding machine, and automated packaging equipment. The company has also strengthened its manufacturing leadership and added key personnel in roles that  include quality and compliance and product management. Earlier this month, SSP increased the size of its global footprint by announcing an exclusive partnership that covers Australia and New Zealand.

Founded in 1989 by four employees of GE Silicones, and recently acquired by HEICO Corporation in 2018, SSP is an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer with products that meet demanding specifications such as the U.S. military’s MIL-DTL-83528 standard for electrically conductive silicones that provide shielding against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI). SSP also makes high-purity, platinum-catalyzed silicones that are FDA CFR 177.2600, USP Class VI, and RoHS compliant.

HEICO Corporation is engaged primarily in the design, production, servicing and distribution of products and services to certain niche segments of the aviation, defense, space, medical, telecommunications and electronics industries through its Flight Support Group and its Electronic Technologies Group. HEICO’s customers include a majority of the world’s airlines and overhaul shops, as well as numerous defense and space contractors and military agencies worldwide, in addition to medical, telecommunications and electronics equipment manufacturers.  For more information about HEICO, please visit our website at http://www.heico.com.
