Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) is pleased to announce that Sarah Lewis has joined our innovative company as Research and Development Manager. In her new role, Sarah will develop new products, improve existing products, and collaborate with customers and co-workers. Sarah has deep industry experience and holds a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York. She reports directly to SSP’s President, Paul DiCaprio, and is responsible for all R&D efforts.
Technical Education
A native of the United Kingdom, Sarah Lewis earned her undergraduate degree, a BSc in Biomedical Materials Science, from The University of Manchester in Manchester, England. She then enrolled at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where she had spent a summer as an undergraduate. Sarah earned an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Lehigh, completed her Ph.D. at RPI, and then spent over a decade working for material science companies in New York’s Capital Region.
Industry Experience
Sarah’s first career stop was as a Materials Engineer for Applied Nanoworks, an advanced materials company with a special focus on nanomaterials. She then worked as an Advanced Materials Engineer for Starfire Systems, Inc., a specialty material company with a revolutionary technology for transforming polymers into ceramics. Before joining SSP, Sarah spent eight years as an Analytical Scientist for Momentive Performance Materials with its global silicones business. There, she performed many different types of material analysis to support internal R&D efforts and customers.

As SSP’s new R&D Manager, Sarah Lewis brings deep industry experience and technical expertise to our Ballston Spa, New York company. She’ll communicate directly with customers and with co-workers from across the business, including production and sales.
