M83528 QPL Certified Elastomers

SSP makes MIL-DTL-83528 silicones and fluorosilicones that are part of the Qualified Product List (QPL) from the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). These M83528 QPL certified elastomers contain silver-coated particles and meet the EMI shielding requirements of MIL-DTL-83528 sections A, B, C, D, and K. SSP’s materials provide alternatives to Parker Chomerics CHO-SEAL products.

SSP also makes EMI elastomers with non-silver coated fills that are used in some military projects. For example, SSP2529 and SSP2551 contain nickel-aluminum particles and are used when galvanic corrosion resistance is required, such as in naval applications. SSP also makes nickel-graphite filled elastomers, including UL 94-V0 EMI shielding for aviation, aerospace, and spaceflight.

Space-Grade Silicone with EMI Shielding

SSP’s line of space-grade elastomers includes SSP-502-55LT,  a low outgassing, low temperature silicone that’s used in EMI gaskets and EMI O-Rings. This 55-durometer EMI shielding silicone has a TR-10 low-temperature capability of -70°C (-94°F). The TR Test is part of ASTM D1329, a standard test method for evaluating a rubber’s retraction at low temperatures.

For an electrically conductive silicone, SSP-502-55LT can withstand very low temperatures. It also passes the ASTM E595 low outgassing test with a Total Mass Loss (TML) of 0.15% and has a shielding effectiveness of <113 dB for the 20 MHz to 10 GHz frequency band. SSP also makes a space-grade silicone, SSP2575, that does not provide EMI shielding but remains flexible at -116°C (-177°F).

EMI Gaskets and EMI O-Rings

In addition to EMI elastomers, SSP makes fabricated products that arrive ready-to-install. EMI gaskets in M83528 slash sizes (part numbers) can be flash cut, die cut, or compression molded from the materials that we manufacture. We also provide EMI gaskets with an electrically-conductive adhesive, and you’ll like our low minimums and short lead times.

The M83528 part numbers that SSP fabricates include EMI O-rings that are designed to fit a groove. This includes M83528/002 (Standard) and M83528/005 (Non-Standard) products. For prototyping and lower-volume applications, we bond EMI O-rings using an electrically conductive adhesive that won’t create a hard spot. For higher volumes, we mold EMI O-rings using tools we produce in-house.
