Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) makes spec-grade military silicones and fluorosilicones that are engineered for mission-critical applications. At our Made in USA manufacturing facility in Ballston Spa, New York, we produce two main categories of military-grade elastomers.
- EMI shielding silicones that are MIL-DTL-83528 QPL certified
- Non-conductive silicones that meet aerospace and defense specifications
SSP manufactures these materials in accordance with our ISO 9001:2015 quality management system and offers a full Certificate of Analysis (COA) with every batch for traceability. Plus, we offer lower minimum order quantities and faster lead times than you’ll find elsewhere.
Whether you need ready-to-fabricate materials or ready-to-install products like EMI gaskets and EMI O-rings, we’re ready to support your mission. Our EMI silicones are available in a variety of form factors, including continuous rolls, and our fabricated products come in M83528 slash sizes
MIL-DTL-83528 EMI Shielding Silicones
Electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) can degrade, disrupt, or disable military electronics or avionics. SSP’s MIL‑DTL‑83528 QPL‑certified conductive silicones combine proven levels of EMI/RFI shielding with dependable environmental sealing.
Our EMI silicones meet the full requirements of lettered sections within MIL-DTL-83528, the U.S. military specification for electrically conductive elastomeric shielding gaskets. These materials are also part of the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency’s M83528 Qualified Product List (QPL).
SSP makes MIL-DTL-83528 Type A, B, C, D, and K elastomers that provide alternatives to Parker Chomerics CHO-SEAL® and Nolato Jabar products. We also make offsets to discontinued flame retardant shielding from W.L. Gore that was used in military aviation and spaceflight applications.
SSP’s MIL-DTL-83528 elastomers are used in avionics housings, GPS systems, secure communications equipment, radar systems, weapons platforms, shipboard electronics, and more. They’re trusted by military buyers and are deployed across numerous military systems.
Military Silicones for Non‑EMI Defense Applications
SSP also manufactures spec-grade military and fluorosilicones that do not provide EMI shielding. These non-electrically-conductive elastomers meet A-A-59588, AMS specifications, or MIL-DTL-28988 (AMS-R-25988). SSP also makes space-grade elastomers with ASTM E595 low outgassing.
A‑A‑59588 Silicones (formerly ZZ‑R‑765)
A-A-59588 silicones are used in military and aerospace applications that require thermal stability, tear resistance, flex-fatigue resistance, and long-term sealing. SSP offers materials in all six A-A-59588 classes: 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A, and 3B.
To our knowledge, SSP is the only manufacturer that has submitted its A-A-59588 3B silicones to third-party testing and received a certification with no exceptions for flexural testing. Download this white paper for more information.
AMS Silicones
SSP also makes AMS silicones that meet the following Aerospace Material Specifications (AMS) from SAE International: AMS 3301, 3302, 3303, 3304, 3305J, 3325, 3332, and 3345. Applications include helicopter bellows, rotor blade seals, and molded sleeves
MIL‑DTL‑25988 Fluorosilicones (AMS-R-25988)
MIL-DTL-25988 fluorosilicones from SSP are engineered for fuel and solvent resistance. They’re used in fuel tank seals, engine-adjacent components, and hydraulic systems. MIL-DTL-25988C materials also meet AMS-R-25988 requirements, a specification from SAE International.
Space‑Grade Silicones
Space-grade silicones have low levels of outgassing and have been independently tested to ASTM E595, a standard that’s used by NASA. These non-conductive elastomers include a material with space heritage and an elastomer with a TR-10 low-temperature capability of -70°C (-94°F).
Choose Military Silicones From SSP
SSP offers Made‑in‑USA manufacturing, low minimum order quantities, fast turnarounds, and a full Certificates of Analysis (COA) for traceability. Whether you need MIL-DTL-83528 QPL certified EMI shielding silicones or non-conductive military silicones, our materials provide proven performance.
