Conductive Elastomer Gasket with EMI Shielding

SSP makes conductive elastomer materials and products that provide EMI shielding and environmental sealing.

A conductive elastomer gasket is made of a rubber material that contains specialized fillers. Normally, elastomers are electrically insulating rather than electrically conductive. That means they prevent rather than permit the flow of electric current. With conductive elastomer gaskets, however, the base rubber is compounded with metal, bimetallic, or bimetallic particles that conduct electricity.

Conductive Elastomer Gasket Materials

Silicones and flurosilicones are used as conductive elastomer materials because of their environmental resistance and temperature insulation.

  • Silicones withstand a wider range of temperatures than rubber materials such as EPDM. They also provide good chemical resistance and can water, moisture, sunlight, and ozone.
  • Fluorosilcones have increased low temperature resistance and can withstand contact with petroleum products (such as jet fuel) and chemicals such as de-icing agents.

SSP makes conductive elastomer gasket materials by compounding the base silicone or fluorosilicone with specialized partialized. These additions impart electrical conductivity and provide EMI shielding.

EMI/RFI Shielding Silicones

SSP makes conductive elastomer gaskets in standard and custom sizes. We fabricate these products from the EMI shielding silicones we make at our Ballston Spa, New York manufacturing facility. The EMI/RFI shielding silicones that we make include.

*MIL-DTL-83528 is a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) standard for electrically conductive elastomeric shielding gaskets. SSP’s materials meet this standard and are part of the Qualified Products List (QPL) from the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), which is part of DoD.

Ask SSP for a Conductive Elastomer Gaskets

SSP uses flash cutting, die cutting, and compression molding to fabricate conductive elastomer gaskets from the materials we produce. Whether your need standard or custom sizes, we can deliver quickly because we have our own in-house toolroom.
