A-A 59588 Silicones in 50, 60 and 70 Durometer

A-A 59588 Silicones in 50, 60 and 70 Durometer

SSP makes A-A 59588 Silicones in 50, 60 and 70 Durometer.

Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) supplies 50, 60, and 70 durometer silicones that meet the full requirements of the A-A-59588 3B specification – with no exceptions for flexural testing.

Other suppliers may claim to meet this requirement, but industry-wide compliance has been inconsistent. The 50, 60, and 70 durometer silicones that SSP supplies have been tested and certified to the full 3B specification, which includes DeMattia Flex Test requirements for resistance to cracking.

The A-A-59588 standard is published by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and contains six alphanumeric classes or sections. Each class specifies multiple material properties, but 3B is one of only two classes with requirements for flex-fatigue resistance. (The other is Class 3A.)

Each class also contains numbered grades (e.g., 50, 60, and 70) that correspond to a silicone’s durometer (Shore A) or hardness.

The following sections describe SSP’s 3B certified silicones. These 50, 60, and 70 durometer elastomers are supplied as compression-molded sheets and ready-to-mold compounds.

For all three durometers, flex-test results are provided right on the product data sheets.

A-A-59588 Class 3B Class 50 Silicone

SSP200T is a 50-durometer elastomer that meets all of the requirements for A-A 59588, Class 3B, Grade 50 silicones. SSP-200T has a maximum flex-resistance of 0.5” and typical values of 0.42” (140,000 cycles).

A-A-59588 Class 3B Class 60 Silicone

SSP392-T is a 60-durometer elastomer that meets all of the requirements for A-A-59588, Class 3B, Grade 60 silicones. SSP-392-T has a maximum flex-resistance of 0.5” and typical values of 0.45” (50,000 cycles).

A-A-59588 Class 3B Class 70 Silicone

SSP-2521-T is a 70-durometer elastomer that meets all of the requirements for A-A-59588, Class 3B, Grade 70 silicones. SSP-392-T has a maximum flex-resistance of 0.5” and a typical values 0.42” (2500 cycles).
