SSP Earns ISO 9001:2015 Certification

Specialty Silicone Products (SSP), global supplier of SpecShield™ silicones, FDA/USP VI silicones, custom septa, and other rubber and plastic products and materials, is now ISO 9001:2015 certified. AEA Quality Registrars, Inc. of Wappingers Falls, New York (USA) issued SSP’s certificate of registration (SSP-001B), which is valid until November 4, 2021.

SSP has been ISO-certified for many years and, until its recent ISO 9001:2015 certification, was an ISO 9001:2008 certified company. By earning its ISO 9001:2015 certifications, SSP is underscoring its commitment to quality and demonstrating its ability to meet the needs of customers in quality-driven industries such as  defense, aerospace, electronics, medical devices and equipment, and pharmaceuticals.

ISO 9001:2015 specifies the general requirements for a quality management system (QMS), a set of policies, processes, and procedures for planning and executing core business functions. The main clauses of the new ISO standard are arranged in a Plan, Do, Check, Act (PCDA) cycle, a four-step management method for the control and continuous improvement of processes and products.

Compared to ISO 9001:2008, ISO 9001:2015 assigns a more prominent role to risk-based thinking and incorporates the concept of preventive action. The risk-based approach in ISO 9001:2015 also requires an organization like SSP to determine risks and opportunities, develop plans to address them, implement actions into QMS processes, and evaluate the effectiveness of these actions.

SSP’s ISO 9001:2015 certification is applicable to the design and manufacturer of silicone rubber compounds and fabricated products and includes the quality assurance and commercial testing of plastic and rubber materials. The issuing agent, AEA Quality Registrars, is an ANAB-accredited management systems certification body.

Founded in 1989 by four employees of GE Silicones, Specialty Silicone Products is based in Ballston Spa, New York (USA) and was recently acquired by HEICO Corporation of Miami, Florida, a rapidly-growing aerospace and electronics company.
