Equipment Investments at SSP

Specialty Silicone Products (SSP), an innovative supplier of silicone materials and products, has made equipment investments in five major areas. Recently, our Ballston Spa, New York (USA) facility added a mixing mill, an extruding machine, precision measurement equipment, an injection molding machine, and automated packaging equipment. SSP’s recent investments will increase capacity, improve quality, and speed delivery times for customers in all of the markets that we serve. 

Mixing Mill 

SSP’s new mixing mill adds significant new capacity since almost everything we convert starts on a mill. This includes ready-to-mold compounds, sheets, continuous rolls, and extrusions. Importantly, our new mixing mill supports SSP’s increasingly popular aerospace silicones, which are used in airframe sealing and with aircraft engines.     

Extruding Machine 

SSP’s new extruder adds capacity that will support the continued growth of our SpecShield® silicones for protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI). These electrically conductive elastomers also provide reliable environmental sealing for EMI and RFI gaskets. In addition, the extruder strengthens SSP’s R&D with complex profiles for medical and other applications.       

Precision Measurement Equipment 

Made by Micro-Vu, a leader in metrology systems, SSP’s new precision measurement equipment enables us to make highly precise measurements both to molded EMI products and to extrusions with complicated profiles. The equipment’s visual, non-contact measurements for quality control (QC) also support septa production by measuring the plastic caps that we injection mold in-house. 

Injection Molding Machine 

Custom septa from SSP are available for just about any application that requires analytical purity. Plus, we have one of the industry’s largest ranges of dies, molds, caps, and silicone formulations. With our recent investment in a new injection molding machine, SSP can mold more plastic caps. Plus, we can eliminate the wait times that occur when finished septa is ready for insertion but production is waiting for caps.  

Automated Packaging Equipment 

Finally, SSP is automating and streamlining its septa packaging for more accurate counts and faster lead times. Our investment in automated packaging equipment also reduces the risk of contamination in very sensitive chromatography applications like blood testing and drug testing, where manual packaging could introduce impurities.
