Supplier Value and the Silicone Shortage

The continuing shortage of silicone rubber is forcing suppliers to have some challenging conversations with their customers. Whether it’s because of price, lead times, or a need to limit purchases, buyers are understandably concerned. Unfortunately, there aren’t any quick fixes. Today’s silicone shortage is expected to last for at least six months, and that’s without any additional supply chain disruptions. The news isn’t good, but it’s not all bad either. You just have to know where to look and who to ask for help.

Silicone Industry Connections

Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) appreciates your business and also recognizes that we may not have all of the products that you need. Yet, because we are deeply immersed in the silicone marketplace, we can leverage our industry connections on your behalf. At a time when some companies are retrenching because of pandemic-related financial losses, we’re championing efforts like Silicone Expo, the world’s first free-to-attend commercial tradeshow and conference for the silicone industry.

Specialty vs. Commodity Silicones

SSP would like to win more of your business, of course, but our Ballston Spa, New York (USA) makes specialty rather than commodity materials. Still, if you need commodity items like solid silicone sheet or uncured silicone compound, we may be able to connect you with another trusted member of our industry The same is true for commodity materials like sponge silicone sheet. Just because SSP doesn’t make it or doesn’t have it (at least for now) doesn’t mean that we can’t help you.

Conclusion

During these challenging times, Specialty Silicone Products would like to help all of its customers and partners find the supplies that they need. So, please tell us what you’re looking for. Whenever possible, we’ll do our best to connect the supply chain dots for you. The current silicone shortage won’t last ever, but SSP believes in relationships that deliver value and are built-to-last.
