EMI Gaskets for Rectangular Waveguides

EMI waveguide gaskets that begin with “WR” are used with rectangular waveguides. The “WR” is part of the Electronics Industries Alliance (EIA) designation system that defines the standard sizes for rectangular waveguides. The number immediately following “WR” (e.g., WR90, WR42, WR137) indicates the inner width of the waveguide in hundredths of an inch.

WR gaskets are used to seal waveguide flanges to prevent leakage and, when they’re made of electrically conductive silicones, o provide shielding against electromagnetic interference. SSP provides the following types of EMI gaskets for rectangular waveguides. waveguide rectangular gaskets. WR28 Waveguide Gaskets

WR28 waveguide gaskets are designed for Ka-band (26.5–40 GHz) waveguide systems to provide EMI/RFI shielding, prevent pressure leakage, and ensure low-loss electrical connectivity between flange faces. They are typically made of conductive, silver-filled silicone elastomers. These EMI gaskets fit UG-599/U or grooved flanges.

WR42 Waveguide Gaskets

WR42 waveguide gaskets are designed for WR-42 waveguides (18-26.5 GHz) to provide environmental sealing and electrical continuity between flange connections. They are made of EMI shielding silicones and and fit standard UG square or grooved flanges.

WR62 Waveguide Gaskets

WR62 waveguide gaskets are electrically conductive sealing components designed for 12.4 to 18 GHz (Ku-band) WR-62 waveguide systems. They provide an environmental seal, prevent pressure leakage, and ensure electrical continuity between flange connections (such as UG-419/U or cover flanges) to reduce RF signal leakage.

WR90 Waveguide Gaskets

WR90 waveguide gaskets are silicone-based seals that connect WR90 waveguide flanges (operating within 6.557–13.114 GHz) to ensure environmental sealing and RF shielding. They prevent leakage, reduce insertion loss, and are available for UG or CPR flanges.

WR112 Waveguide Gaskets

WR112 waveguide gaskets are designed for WR-112 rectangular waveguides (operating at 7.05–10 GHz). They are used to create pressure-tight, environmentally sealed, and EMI-shielded connections between flanges. They are made from conductive silicone rubber for square, cover, or CPR-112G flanges.

WR137 Waveguide Gaskets

WR137 waveguide gaskets are sealing components designed for WR137 rectangular waveguides (5.85-8.20 GHz, C-Band) and measure 1.372 x 0.622 inches. These waveguide gaskets provide environmental sealing, pressure tightness, and EMI shielding between waveguide flanges (e.g., CPR, CMR, PDR70). They help optimize signal integrity.

WR159 Waveguide Gaskets

WR159 waveguide gaskets are silicone-based seals used to connect WR-159 waveguide flanges (often CPR-159G) in microwave systems operating within the 4.90 to 7.05 GHz range. They ensure environmental sealing, prevent pressure leaks, and provide electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. These rectangular waveguide gaskets are frequently used in satellite tracking and communication, with conductive options available.

WR187 Waveguide Gaskets

WR-187 waveguide gaskets are electrically conductive sealing components designed to connect two WR-187 waveguide flanges. By ensuring an electrical and pressure-tight seal, they are crucial for maintaining waveguide integrity in high-frequency, high-power, and pressurized microwave applications.

WR229 Waveguide Gaskets

WR229 waveguide gaskets provide EMI shielding between 3.3 to 4.9 GHz. They are made from conductive silicones and designed for CPR-229G or PDR40 flanges to prevent leakage and ensure optimal signal integrity.

WR284 Waveguide Gaskets

WR284 waveguide gaskets are designed to join two WR-284 waveguide flanges (2.84 inches inner width) to provide RF shielding in systems operating between 2.6 and 3.95 GHz.

WR340 Waveguide Gaskets

WR-340 waveguide gaskets are used for connecting WR-340 waveguide flanges (often CPR-340G) in RF and microwave systems. They ensure a pressure-tight, low-leakage connection between components and operate efficiently in the 2.2 GHz to 3.3 GHz range.

WR650 Waveguide Gaskets

WR650 waveguide gaskets are specialized, conductive seals designed to ensure electrical continuity and environmental sealing (gas-tight) between WR650 waveguide flanges. They are used to prevent RF leakage and pressure loss in waveguide systems operating in the 1.12 to 1.70 GHz range. These waveguide rectangular gaskets are used with flat flanges.

Ask SSP for a standard EMI waveguide gaskets in M83528 or EIA sizes, or for custom EMI waveguide gaskets for non-military or specialized applications. SSP offers low minimum order quantities (MOQs) and quick turn-around times.

In addition to EMI waveguide gaskets, SSP makes EMI O-Rings and other types of EMI gaskets that provide environmental sealing and electromagnetic interference protection. We also supply EMI shielding materials as sheets, rolls, extrusions, and moldable compounds.

Rectangular Waveguide Gaskets FAQ

What are rectangular waveguide gaskets used for?

Rectangular waveguide gaskets provide EMI/RFI shielding and environmental sealing at the interface of rectangular microwave waveguides. They ensure proper electrical continuity and prevent signal leakage in high‑frequency systems.

Which waveguide sizes does SSP support?

SSP manufactures rectangular waveguide gaskets for standard WR‑series sizes, including WR‑28, WR‑42, WR‑62, WR‑90, and others. Custom sizes can also be produced based on customer drawings or application requirements.

What materials are available for waveguide gaskets?

SSP offers waveguide gaskets in multiple conductive elastomers, including nickel‑graphite, silver‑aluminum, silver‑copper, and silver‑nickel filled silicone and fluorosilicone. Each material provides different levels of conductivity, corrosion resistance, and environmental durability.

Do SSP’s waveguide gaskets meet MIL‑DTL‑83528 requirements?

Yes. Several SSP conductive elastomers used in waveguide gaskets meet MIL‑DTL‑83528 specifications, including QPL‑listed silver‑aluminum and silver‑copper materials commonly used in aerospace and defense systems.

Are fluorosilicone waveguide gaskets available?

Absolutely. SSP supplies fluorosilicone versions for applications requiring resistance to fuels, oils, and solvents. These materials are ideal for aerospace, military, and harsh‑environment microwave systems.

What frequency ranges do SSP’s waveguide gaskets support?

Frequency ranges depend on the waveguide size. For example, WR‑28 supports 26.5–40 GHz, WR‑42 supports 18–26.5 GHz, WR‑62 supports 12.4–18 GHz, and WR‑90 supports 8.2–12.4 GHz. SSP’s gaskets are engineered to maintain shielding effectiveness across these bands.

Can SSP manufacture custom waveguide gasket designs?

Yes. SSP can produce custom rectangular waveguide gaskets based on non‑standard dimensions, unique flange geometries, or specific performance requirements. Custom materials and durometers are also available.

What industries use rectangular waveguide gaskets?

These gaskets are widely used in radar systems, satellite communications, aerospace electronics, defense platforms, and high‑frequency microwave assemblies where reliable EMI/RFI shielding is essential.
