Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) is pleased to introduce Taylor Smith as our new Research Development Technician. Taylor joined SSP last August and is part of a team that is led by R&D Manager Sarah Lewis and includes Amelia Berry, Product Development Chemist, and Gary Falchi, Applications Engineer. Recently, Taylor performed laboratory research for an SSP technical article that will appear in the June 2023 edition of Rubber World magazine.

Before joining SSP last summer, Taylor worked in the research and development team as an Advanced Technician at Hollingsworth & Vose, a global manufacturer of advanced materials in nearby Greenwich, New York.  His role primarily consisted of developing new product formulations and laboratory testing to achieve physical properties such as tensile strength and water separation.

Taylor’s professional experience also includes work as a Lab Chemist for Specified Testing Labs, a New Jersey-based company with a Ballston Spa laboratory that provides environmental and food testing services. At Specified Testing Labs, Taylor performed analysis such as chromatography and biological oxygen demand.

A native of Clifton Park, New York, Taylor attended Shenendehowa High School before earning an Associate of Applied Science in Biotechnology and a Bachelor of Technology in Plant Science at SUNY Cobleskill.  Taylor enjoys working with SSP’s advanced materials and praises his colleagues’ expertise and willingness to share what they know.
