SSP352 is a 60-durometer silicone rubber that meets the physical requirements in the AMS 3303 specification. This heat-cured elastomer is also designed to meet the AA 59588 2A &2B, Grade 60 spec. SSP352 uses a DBPH or dicumyl peroxide system and is supplied as compression molded sheet stock or a ready-to-mold compound. It can be pigmented as required, but the most popular colors are red and black.
The AMS 3303 specification covers silicone rubber in the form of sheets, strips, tubing, extrusions, and molded shapes. SAE International, a professional association and standards-developing organization, defines Aerospace Material Specifications (AMS) like AMS 3303.
The shelf life for uncatalyzed SSP352 is indefinite, but this military and aerospace silicone may need freshening after 1 to 2 years. When catalyzed, the shelf life is 6 months. Cold storage will extend the shelf life for this general-purpose silicone rubber.
The AMS 3303 spec is available from SAE International. The table below shows test data for SSP352 that was generated with the DBPH catalyst system.
Property | Typical Values |
Shore A (55 – 65 range) | 60 |
Tensile Strength (650 psi minimum) | 1000 psi |
Elongation % (150 minimum) | 350% |
Tear B (35 ppi min) | 75 ppi |
Specific Gravity | 1.32 – 1.38 |
Other tests performed in accordance with AMS 3303 and AA 59588 2A and 2B, Grade 60 specifications include:
70 hours compression set
Brittle point
Torsional stiffness
Heat aging change
Volume change in water
IRM901 oil immersion change
