Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) molds and bonds conductive EMI RFI O-rings from SSP2551, a 72-durometer nickel-aluminum fluorosilicone that has been independently tested to MIL-DTL-83528.
SSP2551 has a a typical shielding effectiveness of greater than 112 dB for the 20 MHz to 10 GHz frequency band (E-field). This EMI elastomer performs to 40 GHz and can be used for military electronics due to MIL-DTL-461F requirements, specifically Section 5.18 RE103, radiated emissions, antenna spurious and harmonic outputs (10 kHz to 40 GHz).
Because it resists galvanic corrosion, this EMI O-ring material is used in marine environments such as the decks of aircraft carriers, where flange gaskets are subjected to salt spray, jet fuel, de-icing fluids, exhaust fumes, and EMI. Because it is a fluorosilicone, SSP2551 resists fuels and solvents.
SSP makes the molds and the ready-to-mold compounds for molded EMI O-Rings. For bonded EMI O-Rings, we extrude the cords, makes the tooling, and uses a bonding method that reduces the risk of EMI leakage and eliminates the “hard spot” found in other conductive gaskets.
