MIL-DTL-83528C Type K
SSP2571-85 vs. CHO-SEAL 1212

EMI Shielding Silicone with Silver-Copper

SSP2571-85 is an 85-durometer (Shore A) shielding silicone that is filled with silver-plated copper particles and part of the Defense Logistics Agency’s (DLA) Qualified Product List (QPL) for MIL-DTL-83528 Type K. This product is supplied as fully cured, conductive sheet stock; continuous extrusion profiles; and ready-to-mold compounds. This EMI shielding material is tan color.

CHO-SEAL 1212 Offset

SSP2571-85 can be used instead of CHO-SEAL 1212. CHO-SEAL®  is a registered trademark of Parker Chomerics. SSP also makes other CHOSEAL offsets. SSP is not a Parker Chomerics distributor. We make our own EMI silicones at our Made in USA manufacturing facility and offer a Certificate of Analysis (COA) with every batch.

MIL-DTL-83528 Type K

MIL-DTL-83528 Type K covers high-durometer silver-plated, copper-filled silicones capable of 110 dB of plane wave shielding effectiveness at 10 GHz with a continuous temperature range of -45°C to +125°C.

This U.S. military specification defines shielding effectiveness as the ability of an EMI gasket material to electrically bond a test cover panel to an enclosure flange such that the radiated radio frequency (RF) through a 24-in. x 24-in. (61-cm x 61-cm) is attenuated by the factors specified in the standard.

QPL 83528 EMI Gasket Material

SSP2571-85 has passed qualification testing and has been added to QPL-83528 for specific drawings and material types. DLA, the combat logistics support agency for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) maintains a qualifying list of manufacturer part numbers (PNs) that meet the requirements of MIL-DTL-83528C.

EMI Shielding Effectiveness

SSP2571-85 has a typical shielding effectiveness of 140 dB at 20 MHz to 10 GHz (E-Field) and has been independently tested for shielding effectiveness by DLS Electronics Systems, which also tested SSP2571-85 for electromagnetic pulse (EMP) survivability. Its volume resistivity, a measure of an insulating material’s resistance to leakage current through its body, has a typical value of 0.0006 ohm-cm.
