EMI Gaskets: Faster Tooling, Proven Materials, Greater Value

EMI Gaskets

Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) fabricates EMI gaskets from the electrically conductive silicones that we make at our Ballston Spa, New York (USA) manufacturing facility. Our in-house tool room is staffed with machinists who produce the molds, dies, jigs, and fixtures that we use, so we’re able to provide you with fabricated products quickly – and without waiting for an outside toolmaker.

The value that SSP provides doesn’t stop there. Many of our materials are independently tested and we offer a full certificate of analysis (COA) with each batch. Our portfolio of products includes MIL-DTL-83528 QPL certified EMI elastomers, low outgassing silicones for space applications, and electrically conductive silicones for connector gaskets and waveguide gaskets.

EMI Gasket Fabrication Processes

SSP can mold, die cut, or flash cut the EMI gaskets you need. Each process has its advantages.

  • Molding can increase material yields and reduce material waste, especially with large picture-frame style gaskets.
  • Die cutting can achieve precise dimensions, parts nesting, and punched holes with specific radii, all with part-to-part consistency across higher volumes.
  • Flash cutting is ideal for rapid prototyping and short runs, and this EMI gasket fabrication method produces extremely smooth edges with minimal loss of material.

Specialty Silicone Products can also apply an electrically conductive pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) to your EMI gaskets to help you speed up installation. These adhesives have been used in demanding environments like marine and space.

Standard and Custom EMI Gaskets

Whether you need standard M83528 part numbers or custom EMI gaskets, SSP can supply the products that you need. We also offer EMI O-rings in round cross-sections and D-shaped cross-sections. Conductive O-rings with round cross-sections can be used with or without a groove, and conductive O-rings with D-shaped cross-sections are available in nine M83528/013 sizes.

Molded EMI gaskets use silicone or fluorosilicone as the base elastomer and are filled with nickel-aluminum, nickel-graphite, silver-aluminum, silver-copper, or silver-nickel particles. SSP fabricates standard and custom products with compression molding, a process with lower tooling costs than injection molding that’s great for both large parts and small production runs.

Die cut and flash cut gaskets are also available with a choice of base elastomers and fill materials. In addition to sheets and rolls, SSP makes EMI extrusions for gaskets that provide both EMI shielding and environmental sealing. Recently, we updated the product pages on our website to include MIL-DTL-83528 part numbers for the following EMI extrusions.

Ask SSP for EMI Gaskets

Whether you need fabricated products or sheets, rolls, extrusions, or ready-to-mold compounds that you cut or mold into gaskets yourself, SSP is ready to support your project. We also offer Chomerics CHO-SEAL® EMI gasket alternatives and flame-retardant EMI gasketing that provides an alternative to discontinued GORE GS100 and GS5200 materials from W.L. Gore.
