SSP supplies a 40 durometer EMI silicone nickel-graphite that uses silicone rubber as the base elastomer and nickel-graphite for a cost-effective, electrically-conductive fill material.

SSP502-40 is a 40-durometer EMI silicone that’s filled with nickel-coated graphite particles. It’s electrically conductive, environmentally resistant, and provides proven levels of shielding against electromagnetic interference (EMI). SSP502-40 is Made in the USA under an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system and is available in cost-effective quantities for EMI gasket fabrication.

Three Reasons to Buy 40 Durometer EMI Silicone Nickel-Graphite Material

There are many reasons to buy SS502-40 from Specialty Silicone Products (SSP), but three stand out.

  • Silver-less EMI shielding and environmental sealing
  • Superior softness for lower enclosure-force gasketing
  • Continuous rolls up to 15 inches wide for high-volume fabrication

Let’s take a closer look.

#1 Silver-less EMI shielding and environmental sealing

SSP502-40 provides the right combination of EMI shielding and environmental sealing in a cost-effective conductive elastomer. Although silver-filled materials are a traditional choice for EMI gaskets, compounds that contain nickel-coated graphite particles have become increasingly popular. That’s not just because of the lower cost of the fill material either.

SSP502-40 offers comparable performance levels to silver-filled silicones while supporting thinner, smaller, and lighter-weight designs. This very conductive elastomer has been independently tested to MIL-DTL-83528 requirements and has a minimum attenuation level of 115 dB at 20 MHz. Because the base elastomer is silicone, SSP502-40 also seals out moisture and resists both high and low temperatures.

#2 Superior softness for lower enclosure-force gasketing

Some EMI gaskets are subject to lower enclosure forces, but most EMI elastomers have higher durometers that range between 65 and 80 (Shore A). With its 40-durometer hardness, SSP502-40 is significantly softer than these other EMI gasketing materials. Mechanical engineers also like the feel of SSP502-40 and how this solid silicone provides an alternative to foam gaskets.

#3 Continuous rolls up to 15 inches wide for high-volume fabrication

Specialty Silicone Products supplies SSP502-40 as a ready-to-mold compound; full-cured, conductive sheet stock, and as continuous rolls. For high-volume EMI gasket fabrication, continuous rolls are economical and readily support die cutting. Plus, SSP502-40 is one of the few conductive elastomers on the market that can be produced in continuous rolls up to 15 inches wide.

How to Buy 40 Durometer EMI Silicone Nickel-Graphite Material

Like all of SSP’s EMI silicones, SSP502-40 is also available with low minimum order quantities (MOQs) if you need them. SSP sends certificates of analysis (COAs) that prove the quality of its materials and can also provide certificates of conformance (COCs). SSP502-40 shielding silicones are used in demanding applications and are comparable to these Parker Chomerics materials: S6305, 6330, 6371, 6372, and 6308.
