SSP2529 is a nickel-aluminum silicone that combines EMI shielding with protection against galvanic corrosion, a problem in marine environments.
Compared to other EMI elastomers, nickel-aluminum silicones provide the highest shielding effectiveness after long-term age testing. They have low transfer impedance and are a good choice for EMI flange gaskets.
SSP2529 can be used instead of Chomerics 6502. SSP also makes other CHO-SEAL EMI gasket alternatives. CHO-SEAL® is a registered trademark of Parker Chomerics. SSP is a HEICO company that makes its own EMI elastomers. We are not a Parker Chomerics distributor.
SSP2529 was tested for galvanic corrosion according to ASTM B117, a standard from ASTM International for operating a saltwater spray (fog) apparatus. Testing involved 168 hours of salt spray exposure at 95° F. The material under test was aluminum 6081 with a chromate conversion coating per MIL-DTL-5541F. The weight loss was 0.08%.
SSP2529 was tested by a third-party laboratory according to MIL-DTL-83528, a U.S. Department of Defense standard for elastomeric shielding gaskets. The minimum attenuation level was 93 dB at 10 GHz and the best-case attenuation level was 135 dB at 80 MHz. During product testing, a sample was subjected to controlled compression at 10%.
Compression deflection is a measurement of the force required to compress a material to a set amount. Testing for SSP2529 was performed according to ASTM D75 Method A.
