Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) has reduced its lead times for electrically conductive silicone extrusions to just 3 to 4 weeks. That’s significantly shorter than the lead times offered by some competitors, which can extend beyond 12 weeks. SSP extrudes cords, tubes, D-shapes and other profiles from the elastomers it makes and can also fabricate EMI O-rings from these materials.
At its Ballston Spa, New York, manufacturing facility, SSP manufactures silicones and fluorosilicones that combine environmental sealing and electrical conductivity with proven levels of shielding against electromagnetic interference (EMI). With minimum order quantities (MOQ) of just 100 feet, SSP can also meet low-volume demand that some competitors dismiss.
MIL-DTL-83528 QPL Materials and M83528 Slash Sizes
SSP’s EMI extrusions include materials that meet MIL-DTL-83528 Type A, B, C, D, and K requirements. These elastomers are part of the M83528 Qualified Product List (QPL) from the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), which qualifies materials and suppliers for the Department of War. SSP also fabricates cut-lengths into bonded EMI O-rings that are a cost-effective alternative to molded products.
With its in-house fabrication capabilities, SSP can also supply parts in M83528 slash sizes. Examples include M83528/001 Solid Cord and M83528/007 Hollow D Strip – just to name a few. For EMI O-ring buyers, both M83528/002 Standard EMI O-Rings and M83528/005 Non-Standard EMI O-Rings are available. All materials and products are Made in USA with ISO 9001:2015 quality.
Custom Shapes, Non-Silver Fills, and Other Spec-Grade Materials for Conductive Silicone Extrusions
In addition to standard M83528 materials and products, SSP can extrude EMI elastomers in custom shapes. Buyers can also choose electrically conductive silicone and fluorosilicone extrusions that do not contain silver-plated particles for a significant cost savings when silver prices rise. There are other benefits to using these materials as well. For example, SSP’s nickel-aluminum elastomers are used in marine environments because they resist galvanic corrosion.
SSP also makes nickel-graphite extrusions with low outgassing, a requirement for many space and electronics applications. These products meet the requirements of ASTM E595, which defines outgassing limits used by NASA. In addition, SSP extrudes EMI elastomers from flame-retardant materials with a UL 94 V0 flame rating. They’re industry-leading offsets to discontinued EMI gasket materials from W.L. GORE that were used in spaceflight and military aviation.
Find CHO-SEAL® and Nolato Jabar Replacements
Many of SSP’s EMI extrusions can be used instead of materials and products from Parker Chomerics CHO-SEAL® or Nolato Jabar. Plus, unlike some other fabricators, SSP bonds its EMI O-rings using a silicone adhesive that has the same temperature range as the extrusion itself. This conductive silicone adhesive dries to the same durometer as the EMI O-ring to avoid creating a “hard spot”.
Whether you need ready-to-fabricate EMI extrusions or ready-to-install EMI O-rings, SSP invites you to contact us to discuss your sealing and shielding application.
