Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) continues to grow as we meet global demand for innovative elastomers. Recently, our Ballston Spa, New York company added a new engineer, Gary Falchi. Gary joins another engineer, four tool-and-die makers, and a maintenance technician on a seven-person team that’s led by Kyle Wright, SSP’s Engineering Manager.
From Craft Beer to Specialty Silicones
A native of Sauquoit, New York, Gary is a recent graduate of the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oswego. There, he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Technology Management, an academic program that includes a 240-hour industrial internship. Gary’s internship at the Saranac Brewery meant working with craft beer instead of specialty silicones, but his process focus was especially instructive.
At SSP, Gary will help to refine standard operations by applying what he’s learned both inside the classroom and on the production floor. He’ll also spend time working with Mike Rau, a veteran SSP engineer with several years of service. Gary’s job is hands-on and involves multiple roles, but he’ll also work across teams because SSP is both customer-focused and production-focused.
Process Quality and ISO Compliance
To ensure that new process instructions meet quality requirements, Gary will work closely with SSP’s in-house laboratory. All new documents and standard operating procedures (SOPs) must comply with ISO requirements. SSP is an ISO 9001:2008 certified company whose products need to meet demanding specifications such as MIL-DTL-85328 for silicone shielding elastomers.
Gary’s customers will be mainly internal instead of external, but he’s looking forward to supporting SSP’s clients in the many industries that we serve. The scope of SSP’s portfolio, which includes products from EMI silicones and aerospace silicones to silicone membranes and laboratory products, is also of great interest.
